How do I change the Image Sort Order in my galleries?

Here's a quick process for you to change the image sort order within any of your galleries.

Note..  If you plan to sort by Filename, make sure you check out the extra info at the bottom of the page on naming your files!

  1. Hit Library
  2. Click Galleries
  3. Now you can enter your chosen gallery by clicking the View icon.. You can also double click a gallery to enter!

Now that you're in the gallery..

  1. Click the Change Sort By.. drop box to access all of the options.
  2. Finally select either TitleFilename or Date Taken.

..and you're done!

Now, If you plan to sort your images by Filename..

It can be a touch confusing when sorting by Filename as sort algorithms are generally set up to sort numerically first and then alphabetically.

For example if you have files named:
a.jpg b.jpg c.jpg d.jpg and 1.jpg 2.jpg 3.jpg 4.jpg and 10.jpg 11.jpg 12.jpg 13.jpg 14.jpg and 21.jpg 31.jpg 41.jpg

Then sorting by File name (asc) will result in this order:
1.jpg 10.jpg 11.jpg 12.jpg 13.jpg 14.jpg 2.jpg 21.jpg 3.jpg 31.jpg 4.jpg 41.jpg a.jpg b.jpg c.jpg d.jpg

Naming your files with at least a 3 digit suffix should help straighten this out!

So, rather than using the numeric suffix as simply -1, -2, -3.... -10, -11, -12.... etc..
Try using -001, -002, -003... -010, -011, -012.. etc

Rather than:
Wedding_Smith-1.JPG
Wedding_Smith-10.JPG

Use:
Wedding_Smith-001.JPG
Wedding_Smith-010.JPG

This would allow you up to 999 images associated with the gallery name "Wedding_Smith".

If you imagine needing more that this you could take the naming suffix to 4 figures -0001.JPG

..hope this helps!
