Transferring your website domain using "Melbourne IT" – Fotomerchant Support

Below is a detailed explanation of how to modify your DNS records if you are using Melbourne IT as your domain registrar.

Note that in step 8 below, you'll need to enter your domain Verification Code. You can find your this by navigating to the Website / Domain Name page of your Fotomerchant admin account and making your way through the Custom Website Address process there!.. It will look something like this: dabcdcu

Log in to your Melbourne IT account

1. Click the "Log In" link

Enter your log in details

2. Enter your Melbourne IT username
3. Enter the password for your Melbourne IT account
4. Click the "Log In" button

Manage your domain(s)

5. Click on the "Manage Domain Names" link

Choose the domain name you want to edit

6. Click on the domain name you want to edit

If you own multiple domains, this will be the domain you entered in the Custom Website Address section of your Website / Domain Name page in your Fotomerchant account.

7. In the DNS Staus section, click the Manage Host Records link

Add the Fotomerchant verification CNAME record

We now need to enter the verification code you received from the Custom Domain Wizard. This allows us to verify that you own the domain name you are trying to point to your PhotoMerchant website.

8. Enter the 7 digit verification code you received when working through the Custom Website Address wizard in your Fotomerchant account. Eg: dabcdcu

9. Enter the destination address in the Points To field: domainverify.fotomerchant.com.
(IMPORTANT: Make sure there is a full-stop (or period) "." at the end of this address when you enter it in the Points To field)

10. Choose CNAME from the Type drop down box

11. Click the Add button.

Adding the 4 A Host records

We now need to addthe first two A Host Records for the root of your domain. This will allow visitors to visit your site using the address: http://yourdomainname.com as the web address.

12. Enter the symbol "@" in to the Hostname field
13. Enter the system IP 54.215.0.71 in to the Points To field
14. Choose A from the Type drop down box
15. Click the Add button

16. Now repeat steps 12 to 15 to create the second A Host record. This time, enter the second system IP address in step 13: 54.215.0.74

Now we'll addthe final two "wildcard" A Host Records for your domain.

17. Enter the asterisk symbol "*" in to the Hostname field
18. Again, enter the first system IP 54.215.0.71 in to the Points To field
19. Choose A from the Type drop down box
20. Click the Add button

21. Now repeat steps 17 to 20 and enter the second system IP address in step 18: 54.215.0.74

Add the www CNAME record

We now need to add a CNAME record for www. This will allow visitors to visit your site using the address: http://www.yourdomainname.com as the web address.

22. Enter www in to the Hostname field

23. Enter: customerdomain.fotomerchant.com.
(IMPORTANT: Make sure there is a full-stop (or period) "." at the end of this address when you enter it in the Points To field)

24. Choose CNAME from the Type drop down box

25. Click the Add button

That's pretty much it! You've now added all the necessary DNS records into your Melbourne IT account.

Note: these changes can take up to 48 hours to propogate through the network (though it's usually much quicker)
